La Famiglia

Italy is famous for it's culture of close-knit families, Sicily even more so, and AmoreMio's family takes it to an extreme that makes the stereotype look modest. It is physically impossible for us to leave the house without him pointing out yet another relative that I have no hopes whatsoever of remembering. ("Ah, look! It's Francesco, the son of the cousin of the husband of the sister of my dad!")

In total there are 2 grandmothers, 18 aunts and uncles, 24 cousins, 5 great-grandchildren, and nearly all of them can be reached in 15 minutes or less. These 49 relatives are simply the "immediate family", the bare minimum to consider should you be sending out invitations for a wedding, baptism, first communion, graduation, etc.

But the family doesn't stop there. Mamma and Papa' also have numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins, each of which have their own families. Then there are the equally elaborate families of all the aunts and uncles by marriage. Nearly all of whom still live in Caltanissetta.

All in all, I think marrying a girl from Alaska was the only way AmoreMio was going to avoid incest.
