Le Fragole di Mamma

Le Fragole di Mamma

Ingredients:
approx. 100 g strawberries
1 tbsp sugar (or to taste)
1 tbsp brandy (or anther sweet liquor to taste)
1 can whipped cream

Strawberries, Fragole

Fragole in Sicily are in season from early spring to early summer, which means we shall be saying goodbye to them soon (though we do have melon season coming up to ease the pain.)

When I was growing up, strawberries were best eaten right of the bush. Maybe a quick rinse under the tap, but otherwise unchanged. I still enjoy them that way, but here in Sicily it is much more common to dress them up a bit.

Alessandro Del Piero

Del Piero. Oh, where to start. Captain of Juventus. Star goal maker. Famous for his dead-on punizioni and rigori (penalty) shots. Admired not only for his skill, but also for his quality as a human being.

Juventus

Juventus, or Juve as it is more endearingly known, is one of Italy's most celebrated football (soccer) teams. Since I am merely a Juventina by default (I could hardly support Inter or another team after marrying a die hard Juventino) I went to AmoreMio to provide me with more information about Italy's #1 team.

Cherries, Ciliegie

Cherries, or Ciliegie, are one of the first signs of approaching summer.

Here they are eaten as early in the season as possible, mid-May, before the verme (worms) can get to them. While you can still eat cherries later, it's best to cut them in to pieces first to avoid unwelcome surprises.

I have yet to see any recipes related to cherries. Possibly because the Sicilians see no need to fool around with perfection.
